Mayo Social Inclusion Awareness Week 2022 will take place from Monday, October 10th to Sunday, October 16th.
Mayo Social Inclusion Awareness Week gives us the chance to promote and highlight the very positive work that the voluntary and community sectors do on a day to day basis to reduce discrimination, racism, poverty and social exclusion and to reflect on the many challenges faced by vulnerable members in our community.
This year’s SIAW theme is “Arts as a Social Inclusion tool”. Recognising the arts by giving life to multiple forms of expression can become a tool to improve social inclusion and to create bonds between people. Through the arts we have the ability to make connections, facilitate well-being, be empowered and strengthen our self-confidence. It helps people to express themselves, be authentic and provides opportunities to celebrate our uniqueness.
The aim of the week is to support initiatives throughout the county that foster inclusion and equality and highlight the positive work that community and voluntary groups are doing to reduce social exclusion and social isolation. It is an opportunity to celebrate the diversity of people in County Mayo.
The types of events and activities that could be part of Social Inclusion Awareness Week 2022 include music, art, dance, drama, film, storytelling, exhibitions, coffee mornings, sports events, seminars/webinars, information events, and displays – this list is not exhaustive. In keeping with the theme, events should be accessible to all and free of charge.
A brochure of events is currently being compiled. If you would like to be included in the brochure please complete the brochure listing form (2022 SIAW Brochure Listing Form) and e-mail it to [email protected] by Wednesday September 21st, 2022. Only free of charge events can be included in the brochure.
