On Monday 1st December Erris Family & Community Support Centre hosted a star weave workshop as part of the International 16 Days of Action Opposing Violence against Women.
The group invited the community to join them as part of the global One Million Stars initiative, a community arts project that connects community through the art of weaving stars. Each star symbolises LIGHT, HOPE and SOLIDARITY against violence. The eight points on the star represents eight points of a healthy relationship; respect, acceptance, trust, effort, balance, unity, communication and empathy.
The workshop was a special event gathering members of the local community, Transition Year students from Saint Brendan’s College, staff and service users from Western Care were some of the groups in attendance. The Centre was also pleased to have in attendance our front-line services Safe Ireland Mayo, represented by Andrea Clarke and Sergeant Martha Lohan and Garda Denise McDonnell. Local TD Rose Conway- Walsh also supported the campaign on the day.
The 16 Days of Action runs from 25th November-10th December, groups and individuals in the community are invited to get involved to help create a star weave community in Erris. If you would like some information and ribbon for weaving, please contact the Erris FCSC on 0870670989/ [email protected].
