🤩Erris Family & Community Support Centre are very pleased to inform you that they plan to host two consecutive Sensory Smart Workshops in conjunction with Mayo County Library, supported by the Parent Support Fund and Healthy Ireland.
 
🗓️ They take place on two dates: Wednesday 18th and Thursday 26th March, 5.30-7.30pm. Participants should attend both workshops.
 
❓ What you can expect:
✔️ A deep dive into understanding children’s sensory behaviours
✔️ Practical HANDS-ON as well as PASSIVE strategies that work
✔️ Tips for using sensory toys and equipment effectively
✔️ Confidence to support the child’s unique sensory needs
✔️ Evidence informed strategies for regulation
✔️ Opportunities to ask questions and address concerns.

Please join the Ballinglen Arts Foundation this Friday, March 20th, at 2:30pm at The Ballinglen Museum of Art, Ballycastle, F26 X5N3, for the opening of GLEO – A Ballinglen Permanent Collection Exhibition.
Curated by the young artists of 5th and 6th classes from Scoil Naomh Bríd National School, this special exhibition brings together works from The Ballinglen Permanent Collection created by artists on residency (Ballinglen Fellows) alongside work created by the children themselves.
With a theme of marine biodiversity running throughout, the exhibition celebrates the sea, its life, and its presence in our coastal community.
The title chosen by the students, “GLEO,” refers to “the sound of the sea when loud and ominous, akin to loud human or machine noise, foretelling bad weather.” – Collected by Manchán Magan from Pap Murphy, Leithinis an Mhuirthead, Co. Mayo

🌍 Climate Change & Ireland’s Environment – World Meteorological Day Webinar
As weather patterns shift and seasons become harder to predict, many of us are wondering how these changes will affect Ireland’s landscapes, wildlife and coasts.
Join Nature Network Ireland on World Meteorological Day for an engaging online webinar exploring the impacts of climate change on Ireland’s physical environment and natural world.
They are delighted to welcome:
• Bernadette Connolly from The Environmental Forum, who will discuss the physical impacts of climate change on Ireland, particularly along our coasts. Topics will include coastal erosion, tidal flooding, and what these changes may mean for our local areas.
• John Armstrong, ecologist with Nature Network Ireland, who will explore how climate change is affecting our natural environment, including changes in species ranges and the risk of extinctions.

Outdoor Passion Play at The Abbey
The Passion Play or “The Triumph of Easter” as it is called, is ‘staged’ each Holy
Week on the grounds of Ballintubber Abbey. The ‘stage’ is the natural setting of the
grounds and when they were being landscaped, had this in view. It takes place
outdoors.
Event Details:
The Passion Play takes place Monday 30th, Tuesday 31st of March and Wednesday 1st of
April 2026 at 9:00 p.m.
Admission is free and the event is open to all.
While admission is free, donations are greatly appreciated to help cover the costs of production, lighting, and sound.
A suggested donation of €10 per person can be made at the gate or online.
As this is an outdoor event, we recommend bringing warm clothing and a blanket.
Comfortable footwear is advised.
Some visitors bring cushions for added comfort on the benches.
The Tochar Phádraig is returning for the 2026 season. 🌿
This ancient pilgrim path has been walked for centuries, linking Ballintubber Abbey with Croagh Patrick and weaving faith, landscape, and tradition into one shared journey.
With guided walks taking place throughout April, June, July, and August, 2026 offers the chance to step into a living piece of Mayo’s heritage and experience the Tochar for yourself.

Mayo County Council’s Environment Awareness Office wishes to advise that there will be an electrical recycling day  (WEEE Recycling Event) at the following:-

  • Pavilion Road Car Park in Castlebar on Saturday, 28th March, 2026, from 10am – 4pm.

Householders will have an opportunity to recycle any waste electrical items, batteries or energy saving lightbulbs for FREE.

Literally anything household with a plug, a lead, or a battery, at the end of its useful life and this includes large and small household items.

Recycling e-waste is beneficial for the environment and the economy.   By recycling e-waste, it is diverted from landfill, and

recovers raw materials for reuse.   It also ensures that hazardous materials in these items are safely and responsibly disposed of.

Save the date! Ballyhaunis Tidy Towns’ Good Friday Spring Clean-up is just around the corner!

Join Ballyhaunis Tidy Towns on Good Friday (April 3rd) at 10 AM at the Community Hall Ballyhaunis to carry out the annual clean-up around town. This year, a group will concentrate on cleaning up the river Dalgan.

Castlebar Tidy Towns is calling on the entire community to support this year’s An Taisce National Spring Clean campaign throughout the month of April, with a special “Big Clean Up Day” taking place on Good Friday, 3rd April 2026.

Volunteers are invited to assemble at Mulroys Londis, Moneen at 9.30 am, where bags, gloves and high-visibility vests will be provided. Refreshments will be available afterwards for all participants.

While the Good Friday clean-up will be the focal point of the campaign, Castlebar Tidy Towns is encouraging schools, residents’ associations, businesses, sports clubs, community organisations and individual volunteers to organise clean-ups in their own areas at any stage during the month of April as part of the overall An Taisce National Spring Clean. .

The Spring Clean initiative forms an important part of the town’s preparation for the National Tidy Towns Competition, as adjudicators are expected to visit Castlebar during June and July. Castlebar Tidy Towns hopes to build on recent success, having secured seven consecutive Gold Medals, and is aiming to achieve an eighth in a row while continuing to improve the town’s overall standing in County Mayo.

Community participation plays a vital role in maintaining Castlebar as an attractive and welcoming place to live, work and visit. Castlebar Tidy Towns greatly appreciates the continued support and commitment of volunteers, community groups and local organisations who contribute their time and effort each year.

Everyone is encouraged to take part and help make Castlebar shine this spring.

The Jackie Clarke Collection is delighted to announce its Easter Event Programme for 2026! On Saturday 4th April 2026 between 10am and 1pm they will be hosting a number of eggcellent activities at the JCC.
There will be a fantastic bake sale raising funds for Newtownwhite Educate Together NS Parents Association from 10am.
From 10am until 1pm there will be “Spinathon Fun” to raise funds for the River Moy Search And Rescue.
There will be our annual Hippity Hoppity Easter Treasure Hunt! It kicks off at 11am from the collection’s courtyard before everyone sets off looking for clues around the town! (Answers will be called back at the collection at 12.45!)
We will have the Ballina Girl Guides here from 10am running a special Easter Craft Workshop. While DJ Pat Boyle will be keeping everyone entertained with his music and merriment!
The museum, it’s walled heritage garden and the Infrangible Bonds Art Exhibition will also be open from 10am until 1pm on the day and entrance is free! So put the date in your diaries its sure to be a cracking day!

North Mayo Heritage Centre are delighted to run these courses again this year.
They are 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁-𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗦𝗟𝗘𝗧𝗕 and delivered by North Mayo Heritage Centre Organic Garden staff. They are 𝘀𝘂𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗿 𝗻𝗼 𝗴𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝘀 𝘄𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝗮𝘀 𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗱 𝗴𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀 who want to learn more about the principles of organic growing.
Course 1 will run from 10am to 2pm on Saturday 18th & 25th April and 2nd and 9th May.

📌learn how to sow, plant and grow organic vegetables, fruit and herbs,
📌gain an understanding of the principles of organic growing,
📌learn about caring for soil
📌learn about weed and pest control.

We’re delighted to announce that, due to continued interest, the Ready to Work and SICAP programmes at South West Mayo Development is bringing back Empowered Enterprise – Entrepreneurship for Disabled People for a second year.

This fully funded programme runs over nine sessions and is designed to support disabled people who are interested in exploring self‑employment as a viable option. Participants will be supported to build confidence, develop practical enterprise skills, and gain a deeper understanding of what it takes to start and run a business, all within a welcoming and inclusive learning environment.  The course was developed by Professor Thomas Cooney and team at TU Dublin.

The course is open to anyone who identifies as disabled and would like to explore self‑employment, whether they are at an early idea stage or simply want to learn more about entrepreneurship as a potential pathway.

Starting Friday, 17th April

Graham Cawdell, secretary of the Mayo branch of BirdWatch Ireland, will present two upcoming talks on his lifelong obsession with birds and how they work. The first talk, on Tuesday 28th April, will cover how birds adapted their breeding from that of their dinosaur ancestors, pairing and bonding, the miracle of an egg, the spectrum of hatchling ability, and the law regarding breeding birds.
 
 
There is no charge for this. It will merely allow organisers to prepare the room and keep their costs down. These talks will be free for everyone. The Mayo branch of BirdWatch Ireland will continue with more talks in the autumn and winter, pending funding through grants and voluntary donations.

 

Swift Conservation Ireland are delighted to invite you to an informative free talk on Swifts and how amazing they really are. The talk is open to people of all ages and will happen next Tuesday, April 28th in Cong Crossroads Community Center at 7.00pm.

Kilmovee Heritage are delighted to be hosting a hands-on two-day dry stone walling workshop with Dominic Keogh this May! (times are 9.30am to 4pm). It’s a great opportunity to learn a traditional skill and spend time working outdoors with others. Places are limited, so early booking is advised. Why not start of the New Year by getting your pollinator actions planned and ready for spring. The All-Ireland Pollinator Plan has some excellent online resources, and recently launched their FREE online course “Managing Communities for Pollinators” covering useful topics and actions for pollinators.

This free course is aimed at community groups who are interested in making their community pollinator friendly, such as Tidy Towns, Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful, Green Communities, community gardens, residents’ associations, and wildlife, environmental, or youth groups. From pesticide alternatives to plant lists, pollinator-friendly mowing tips to ideas on getting the wider community involved, this is a great resource for any community rural or urban, large or small.
