MAYO LOCAL COMMUNITY SAFETY PARTNERSHIP
The Mayo Local Community Safety Partnership held its third meeting on Thursday 2nd July 2026 in the Castlebar Regional Training Centre, Saleen, Castlebar.
The Chair, Cllr. Michael Loftus opened the meeting by welcoming all attendees, both in-person and online. He introduced three new members and noted that Superintendent Ursula Hussey has been transferred to Sligo Division. The Chair thanked her for her valuable contribution , input and engagement with Mayo Local Community Safety Partnership and wished her every success in her new role.
Vice-Chair, Tony Healy, provided an overview of progress achieved to date by the Partnership, which includes:
- Welcoming three new members to the Partnership, one representing Community and one representing the Older Persons Council. Superintendent Gerard McEntee has replaced Superintendent Ursula Hussey on the Partnership. The Partnership now has a full complement of 30 members.
- Four working groups were set up and have each met on a number of occasions to provide input into the development of our Local Community Safety Plan.
- Public Safety – Communications and Awareness.
- Community Wellbeing, Family and Older Members of the Community.
- Integration, Education and Youth Development.
- Crime Prevention and Justice.
- Progress updates were delivered by the Chair of each Working Group.
Several productive and insightful discussions took place regarding issues such as road safety, developing measures of outreach for young road users, use of e-scooters in public places, the Senior Alert Scheme for the elderly, Purple Day Initiatives, engaging with young people, CCTV, vaping and issues which effect the perception of public safety.
Ann Marie Brett, Coordinator, gave an update to the meeting in relation to funding of €35,000 which has been allocated to Mayo Local Community Safety Partnership. The Partnership are now pursuing initiatives that will help achieve the goals of public safety and public safety perception.
A resolution of Mayo County Council in relation to media attendance was raised and discussed.
In addition, revised Standing Orders were adopted by consensus.
