Castlebar Stingers Ice & Inline Hockey Club
Castlebar Stingers Ice & Inline Hockey Club is a community-based, inclusive sports club established in late 2022 with the aim of developing inline hockey, skating skills, physical activity, and youth participation in County Mayo. Since officially registering on 1st November 2022, the club has grown from just 9 members to 67 active members across different age groups and abilities. Our club provides opportunities for children, teenagers, and adults from beginner to advanced level, with a strong focus on participation, inclusion, confidence-building, teamwork, and well-being. We actively work to make sport accessible to everyone, including girls and women, members of the Travelling Community, and children with autism, anxiety, or additional support needs. Inline hockey is still a developing sport in Ireland, and one of our main goals is to continue growing awareness and participation in the sport within Mayo and the wider West of Ireland. We are proud to provide local opportunities for young people to take part in a structured team sport and to represent County Mayo in Inline Hockey Ireland activities and competitions. The club currently operates with 7 Garda Vetted and Safeguarding trained volunteers, and additional volunteers are currently completing the vetting and safeguarding process as the club continues to expand. As well as focusing on physical activity and skill development, we place a strong emphasis on mental well-being, social inclusion, community connection, and creating a positive environment where every child feels welcome and valued. We believe sport can play an important role in improving confidence, social interaction, resilience, and overall well-being. Our work and contribution to local sport development were recognised through receiving a local Sports Star Award, reflecting the positive impact the club continues to have within the community. Our philosophy is simple: “We teach while playing. We play while teaching.”
