Murrisk Development Association CLG
Murrisk Development Association (MDA) is a voluntary community association dedicated to the development of Murrisk village and it's hinterland in a variety of ways. It takes responsibility for the tidiness and upkeep of the Millennium Park, the Famine memorial, the local cemetery, the car park, Murrisk Abbey and the general tidiness of the village through voluntary effort and the work of ten members of Community Employment Schemes run by the South West Mayo Development Company Ltd. As well as running a local community café, community centre and running a weekly Lotto competition, MDA manages all of the traffic and car parking for the Reek Weekend in July in cooperation with An Garda Siochana, Mayo County Council, Mayo Mountain Rescue and St. Mary's Parish, Westport. MDA also participates in work on environmental issues such as the Croagh Patrick conservation in conjunction with Mayo Co. Co. and the Shareholders Group and in the National Tidy Towns Competition. MDA endeavours to promote and encourage local employment in tourism and in the provision of projects and work for all RSS and CE employees.
