Roots in the Region – Engaging Our Diaspora Survey: Deadline Extended to 11th January 2026

The Western Development Commission are carrying out an exciting new research project which aims to develop a much clearer picture of the scale, nature and geography of diaspora engagement which is happening in the Western Region and to see how we can work together to engage better with these extended communities. Across Donegal, Leitrim, Sligo, Roscommon, Galway and Clare and of course, Mayo, communities and organisations maintain meaningful ties and connections with people who have moved away or who still feel part of the region through family, heritage or shared interests. Amongst those groups are many of the member organisations who make up the respective PPNs, be they involved in community development, economic regeneration, community tourism, heritage, recreation, sport or one of the many other activities of community benefit which can benefit from diaspora involvement.

The WDC want to hear from individuals and groups who are working all kinds of levels to build these connections – in large ways and small – and would be very grateful if you could take a few moments to complete the survey and share it through your own networks. The greater the response to this survey, the more information we will have on both what is happening now and on what potential there is for us to do more.  The survey is also accessible on the WDC website www.westerndevelopment.ie where you can also find out more about the research.

This survey closes at 11.59pm on the 11th January 2026.
