Are you working as a creative in rural Ireland? Do you work with artists, technical staff, arts organisations, local communities and other stakeholders to bring a creative project to life? What are the challenges you face specific to working in a rural setting? Whether you’re a producer involved in festivals, events or community-based projects, sourcing supports is one of the challenges that rural creatives face. Relevant training and professional development and access to producer networks are key to sustaining a creative practice.
To explore these topics and share experiences, Mayo County Council Arts Service is happy to present Rural Producers Support Programme in partnership with Promenade and Circus250. The programme consists of a full day of presentations and discussion followed by one-to-one clinics for Mayo based producers. Additionally, Mayo County Council Arts Service is delighted to offer a mentoring programme for 2 Mayo based emerging producers.
This event is relevant for Mayo based rural producers and those working in community-based creative projects. Whether you are experienced or considering organising your own community event, this event will offer insights for both emerging and established producers and organisers.
We’ve invited speakers who are producers and who work directly with rural creatives.
- Kath Gorman, Promenade
- Dea Birkett, Circus250
- Mick Smyth, Mayo Artsquad
- Katriona Gillespie, Mayo County Council Arts Service
- Maura Murphy, Mayo County Council Tourism Office
Each will share insights into the specific challenges rural creatives face in their sectors and offer practical information on supports and funding opportunities that are available.
The morning will include individual presentations from each and an open panel discussion where participants can chat informally with the speakers about their own work and professional needs.
The afternoon will include 4 x one-to-one 20-minute mentoring sessions with Kath Gorman of Promenade who is a creative producer, curator and arts management consultant.
