Notice of Section 38 under the Road Traffic Act, 1994 in respect of Traffic Calming Measures under the Safe Routes to School Project for Carn National School, Moygownagh, Ballina, Co. Mayo.
The Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Programme aims to make walking, cycling, and scooting to school safer and more accessible, helping to reduce car dependency, improve road safety, and support healthier, more active lifestyles.
Carn National School is located off the R315 on a one-way slip road currently used for school drop-off and collection.
The proposed scheme aims to enhance safety and accessibility for pupils and parents by improving the front of school area, providing safe pedestrian and cyclist crossings, and supporting the use of a nearby Park and Stride location.
The primary objectives of the scheme are to:
- Improve safety for the pupils, cyclists, pedestrians, and other vulnerable road users
- Encourage walking, cycling, and scooting to school
- Reduce traffic congestion during drop-off and collection times
- Enhance the overall school environment through landscaping and design improvements
