Conversations With My Own Place
BOOKS at ONE Louisburgh
‘’What inspires me to paint is how the light falls, becoming absorbed or reflected off and dynamically washed again into the natural fabric of my own place. It’s where the land meets the sea and the sea floats the islands looking back towards us, as all that there is to admire and enjoy here, is sheltered under an ever changing sky.
The weather too, like an old friend whose moods are familiar, yet can surprise the beholder with the sublime that is to be found even in the imagined imperfections of its rain, wind and cold.
My work is about how I see and feel all that there is to admire and behold in my own place. My painting and drawing is a conversation. It enables me to express gratitude for all of it.’’

‘Putting Your House in Order’ series of FREE events about the End of Life
It is that topic that most people avoid talking about – the End of Life.
But it is an important one to discuss, especially if you have specific wishes or plans that you want to be carried out.
What happens if a loved one becomes incapacitated? What happens when a loved one dies? Do they have special requests? What happens with their estate? Do they have a will?
These are all very important questions that need to be discussed. Age-Friendly Mayo, Mayo Library Service with Irish Hospice Foundation and Decision Support Services are helping you by hosting two workshops over the month of November 2024, called ‘Putting Your House in Order’.”
Traditionally we don’t like to talk about planning for what happens in the case of a medical emergency, where a person cannot make decisions for themselves or making known their wishes for when they die. This planning is essential so that a person’s family can plan according to their wishes, not their best guess for what the person would have wanted.
‘Putting Your House in Order’ Information sessions will be held in Castlebar (18th November) and Ballina Library (19th November) and will give advice on a range of topics under four main headings:
- Care Preferences– Advance Healthcare Directive, Designated Healthcare Representative, Life-Sustaining Treatments, CPR etc.
- Legal– Enduring Power of Attorney, Making a Will etc.
- Financial– Bank Accounts, Insurance, Life Assurance, Credit Cards, Tax Affairs, Pensions etc.
The Decision Support Service will be on hand to help people get set up on the Decision Support Service portal. All people will need is 1 proof of ID and a proof of address (an e-bill will work for this). They will be on site to people after each session for about 45 minutes.
The ‘Putting Your House in Order’ events are FREE but places are limited so booking is essential.
Please email [email protected] to register.
