Join artist Tzu Ning Chiang (Viola Chiang) for a guided gallery tour of her solo exhibition, ‘Book as an object’, currently showing in the Linenhall Gallery (Upstairs).
Tzu Ning Chiang (Viola Chiang) was born in Taipei, Taiwan, lives and works in Venice, Italy. She is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice employs a variety of media.
Following the gallery tour participants will be invited to make a small print piece using a gel plate and ink pad, guided by the artist.

A potter, a painter, and a philosopher have created hand-painted bowls and a philosophical text for the exhibition entitled “Ceramic Poem and the Mixing Bowl.” This exhibition shows hand-painted bowls related to ‘real’ and ‘imagined’ landscapes and attempts to reveal a sense of wonder of our natural world captured in paint, on clay, and in the form of a bowl.

Mayo Dark Skies wish to invite you and your Parent/Guardian to join the Night Owl crew 🦉, recent winners of the Dark Sky International RISING STAR AWARD 2024 and ECO-UNESCO Young Environmentalist Award Finalists, for an upcoming event this Saturday, the 18th January 2025 from 5pm-7:30 PM.
The evening will explore topics such as: the Difference between Cold and Warm Light 💡🕯, Biodiversity at Night 🦇🦭🐦🐸🦊🦡🦔, Astronomy and Importance of Stars to People ✨💫⭐️, Staying Safe at Night 🦺🌠, Importance/Dangers/Environmental Impact of Fire at Night 🔥, and Various Games for Night-Time Fun🎲♟. The Night Owls will be perched at the Ballycroy Visitor Centre, Wild Nephin National Park, Mayo Dark Sky Park.
Also joining them is the producer of Ecolution, a Young People Podcast for RTÉ that creates audio podcasts about nature and the climate crisis, and this episode will be about light pollution and its impact on biodiversity!
Please arrive a little earlier to get settled. Most of the event will take place outdoors, so please dress accordingly.

The Butterfly Garden in Swinford are asking for volunteers for their winter clean-up and planting day, this Sunday the 19th of January.
A lot of leaves cover the beds and pathway, slowing down the spring bulbs that are trying to make an appearance.

Azure tours are specifically designed to support people living with dementia and their family, friends or carers. The tour will explore how we look and interact with art, and will be led by Visual Artist Joanna Hopkins.

A Chara – Half the Park is After Dark!
This February 2025, Mayo’s volunteer and community sector has the opportunity to encourage staff to become Dark Sky Champions. Hosted by the team of Mayo Dark Sky Park / Wild Nephin National Park, this training is focused on optimising this growing form of sustainable tourism. This unique potential for local businesses to benefit from Mayo’s dark sky destination status, comes hot on the heels of being awarded International Dark Sky Place of the Year Award 2024.
These morning half-day workshops will be delivered in two locations: Béal an Mhuirthead (Belmullet) on Tuesday the 11th of February and Westport on Thursday the 13th of February. An expert from Dark Sky International, Dan Oakley, will be in Mayo especially to deliver this training.
You will gain knowledge on:
 why dark sky places are attracting top travel trends in tourism,
 how to make your premises dark sky friendly and reduce light pollution (without compromising safety)
 why dark sky places are essential to our ecosystems
 useful visitor resources for stargazing and astronomy
Attendees will receive a certificate of completion and guidelines on how to make their premises dark sky friendly and for dark sky tourists.

The Federation for Victim Assistance is a voluntary organisation founded in 2005, that offers a range of services designed to assist victims and those that have experienced a traumatic incident, in coping with the effects of crime and trauma. The service is also available to Victims’ family members. They also promote awareness and campaign across a broad range of issues concerning Victims of Crime.

At Helium Arts, we offer Distance Creates – a series of free online art workshops for children and young people with lifelong physical health conditions like diabetes, epilepsy, spina bifida, heart conditions, juvenile arthritis, rare conditions, and more.

Through art, these children can build confidence, connect with others, and have fun! Our online workshops are designed and led by talented professional artists.
